Air Purifiers FAQ
Air 500/1000/2000/4000/6000 Air Purifier Models
How do I figure out the size of my room?
When you're shopping for an air purifier to improve the air quality in a room, it's critical to ensure that you select a model that has the capacity to handle the area. That begins with determining the size of the room.
To calculate the square footage (ft²) of your room, simply measure its length and width and then multiply the two numbers together.
Examples:
- 12ft x 10ft = 120ft²
- 16ft x 20ft = 320ft²
Which model of air purifier do I need for my room size?
Once you know the square footage of the room, you're ready to select an appropriately sized air purifier.
Here are the maximum effective square footage per hour capacities of our three available air purifier models;
- Bosch Air 500 - 455ft2 per 60 minutes
- Bosch Air 1000 - 455ft2 per 60 minutes
- Bosch Air 2000 - 810ft² per 60 minutes
- Bosch Air 4000 – 1,345ft² per 60 minutes
- Bosch Air 6000 – 1,935ft² per 60 minutes

What types of pollutants does each air purifier model filter out?
The filter that's housed in the air purifier removes 99.9% of the following pollutants from the air:
- Bosch Air 500 - 2 in 1 filter (pre-filter/HEPA) that reduces pollen, allergens, dust, viruses, VOCs, and pet hair.
- Bosch Air 1000 - 2 in 1 filter (pre-filter/HEPA) that reduces pollen, allergens, dust, viruses, VOCs, and pet hair.
- Bosch Air 2000 - 3 in 1 filter (pre-filter/HEPA/active carbon) that reduces pollen, allergens, dust, viruses, odors, VOCs, and pet hair.
- Bosch Air 4000 - 3 in 1 filter (pre-filter/HEPA/active carbon) that reduces pollen, allergens, dust, viruses, odors, VOCs, and pet hair.
- Bosch Air 6000 - 4 in 1 filter (pre-filter/HEPA/active carbon/antibacterial) that reduces pollen, allergens, dust, viruses, odors, VOCs, pet hair, and includes an antibacterial chemical treatment to prevent the build-up of bacteria on the filter.

I've seen the terms "VOC", "TVOC" and "PM2.5" mentioned in the product literature. What do they mean?
These terms refer to types of pollutants found in the air;
- VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) - Potentially harmful chemicals that are released into the air from materials such as perfumes, cleaning products, air fresheners, scented candles, paint, varnish, plywood, particle board, adhesives, carpets, synthetic fabrics, etc.
- TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) - This is a measurement of the total amount of VOC found in a sampled volume of air.
- PM2.5 (Particulate Matter 2.5) - Fine particles of solid matter, such as dust, pollen, per dander, smoke, etc. "2.5" means that the filter can remove particulates down to a size of 2.5µm (micrometers).
Our Air 500/1000/2000/4000/6000 air purifier models can remove VOC and solid particles down to a size of 2.5µm in the air.

Do I need an contractor to install the air purifier?
Not at all!
Just plug the air purifier into the nearest grounded 120v outlet, make sure that you have removed any plastic packaging from the removeable filter media, press the power button to turn it on, and the unit will start in Auto mode* and begin cleaning the air.
*The Bosch Air 500 model does not have an Auto mode. Please instead select a fan speed.

What are the various modes used for?
All five of the air purifier models have various modes of operation that you can choose from;
Bosch Air 1000/2000/4000/6000 Models
- Auto - The air purifier will continuously monitor the air quality in the room and adjust the fan speed automatically as needed.
- Manual - You can choose a fan speed (1, 2, or 3) and the air purifier will stay at that power without automatically adjusting to current air quality.
- Sleep - This will dim the air purifier's lighting and slow the fan down to its quietest speed.
Bosch Air 500 Model*
- Manual - You can choose between three fan speeds.
- Sleep - This will dim the air purifier's lighting and slow the fan down to its quietest speed.
*The Bosch Air 500 model does not have an Auto mode.

What is the noise level of each of the air purifier models?
With the air purifier running at full speed, the maximum noise levels are:
- Bosch Air 500 - Up to 50db
- Bosch Air 1000 - Up to 50db
- Bosch Air 2000 - Up to 49db
- Bosch Air 4000 - Up to 49db
- Bosch Air 6000 - Up to 55db

I've noticed that the light ring that encircles the top of the air purifier changes color. What does that mean?
The light ring* changes color based on the current volume of particulates (PM2.5) in the atmosphere of the room that the air purifier is placed in, and the PM2.5 level will also be displayed on the screen located on top of the air purifier:
- Blue - Good (PM2.5** level 0 to 12)
- Purple - Ok (PM2.5** level 13 to 35)
- Orange - Poor (PM2.5** level 36 to 55)
- Red - Bad (PM2.5** level 56 and higher)
The Air 6000 model also displays the level of TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) that are sensed in the air. The light ring does not change color and the fan speed does not adjust to TVOC levels, but the product does filter them out:
- L1 - Low Concern (<0.3mg/m3)
- L2 - Acceptable (0.3 to 0.5mg/m3)
- L3 - Marginal (0.5 to 1mg/m3)
- L4 - High Concern (1 to 3mg/m3)
* Applicable to the Bosch Air 1000/2000/4000/6000 models only.
The Bosch Air 500 model does not have a light ring or air quality sensor.
**PM2.5 is a measurement that refers to ultra-fine airborne particle pollutants that are smaller than 2.5µm, and the higher the number the higher the amount of pollutants present in the air.
This includes, but is not limited to; Tobacco smoke, cooking, burning candles, mold spores, pet allergens, dust mite allergens, and some airborne bacteria.

I have the air purifier in my bedroom, but the brightness of the status light ring is bothering me. Can I turn it off?
If you would like to dim the brightness of the lighting, you can put the air purifier into Sleep Mode by pressing the Sleep Mode icon located on top of the unit.
This also slows the fan RPM down to its lowest possible speed to reduce the noise level too.
Alternatively, if you want to turn the status light off but still retain full fan speed functionality, press and hold the Sleep Mode icon for 3 seconds.
For further details, please refer to your product manual.
If you no longer have the manual, you can download a digital copy from this page.
I opened the cover to access the filter, but the product no longer powers on. What happened?
There is a safety feature built into the air purifier that prevents the product from powering on if the filter cover isn't closed properly.
So if the product will not power up after you have opened and closed that panel, please make certain that you have fully closed it properly.
Once it is seated correctly, pressing the power button will turn the product back on again.
How often does the filter need to be replaced?
The practical lifetime of the replaceable filter will depend on:
- How long the air purifier has been running.
- The amount of airborne pollutants in the room.
- How often the user maintains the filter by cleaning it.
For instructions on cleaning the filter and other maintenance information, please refer to your product manual.
